Rokkakudo (Chōhō-ji

Rokkakudo, founded by Prince Shotoku, is home to a variety of cherry blossoms, including Somei Yoshino, early-blooming weeping cherry blossoms, and Miyuki sakura. While the grounds aren’t particularly large, the charm of the temple lies in its serene atmosphere, which feels almost out of place considering it’s located in the midst of the city. The vibrant five-colored curtains and the green willows create a harmonious and tranquil setting, enhancing the beauty of the surroundings.

One of the most heartwarming features of Rokkakudo is the collection of cute Jizo statues scattered throughout the temple. Each one is dressed in colorful knitted hats and aprons, adding a touch of whimsy and warmth to the scene. As you watch the cherry blossoms gently sway in the breeze, a sense of calm and relaxation takes over—it’s truly a moment to cherish.

Just next door is my personal favorite: the Starbucks. This café offers the perfect cherry blossom viewing experience with single-seat sofas strategically placed to face large windows, providing a clear view of the sakura. If you’re lucky enough to snag one of these seats, it’s a truly special experience—sipping coffee while enjoying the beauty of the blossoms outside. It’s the perfect spot to sit, relax, and take in the peaceful surroundings while enjoying a warm drink.
