Japan is becoming more cashless, but many local shops, food stalls, and tourist sites still only accept cash. This is especially true in rural areas, where credit cards are not always an option. It’s a good idea to carry some cash, preferably 1,000 yen bills and coins. Also, having a Suica or another IC card makes train rides and small purchases much more convenient!
While Japan has free Wi-Fi at cafés and train stations, the connection can be unstable, and registration can be a hassle. In rural areas, finding Wi-Fi can be even more difficult. To avoid any inconvenience, getting a SIM card or eSIM in advance is highly recommended!
