Keage Incline

When you get off at Keage Station, you can immediately see the tracks. Cherry trees line both sides, creating a beautiful cherry blossom tunnel. You can walk along the tracks and capture stunning photos. Since it gets very crowded during cherry blossom season, it’s recommended to visit early in the morning for a more peaceful experience.

About the Keage Incline
Keage Incline is a historical inclined railway that connects the Keage boat station upstream and the Nanzenji boat station downstream, with a total length of about 582 meters. It was the longest of its kind in the world when it was built. To overcome a height difference of about 36 meters, boats were placed on carts and transported using a cable car-like system. This allowed boats to avoid unloading cargo while navigating the incline. Today, the tracks are preserved, and visitors can walk along the incline, which is a popular tourist spot. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom on both sides, creating a stunning and picturesque scene.
